Contemporary American football painting. ‘Running Back’ See video demonstration.

22″ x 15″, Acrylic on Paper, sold unframed.
I painted this expressive football painting in the studio on 09-06-2010. The medium is acrylic paint on paper with the assistance of a reject painting.
This may be my favorite football painting to date. Some paintings come together with ease while others can be a struggle. That’s one thing about my technique that can be frustrating and it’s not uncommon for a session to go south for the day. For those artists that are more methodical and have a set technique I admire you. It’s something I’ve tried in the past but can’t get excited about. My brain isn’t programmed that way and the session was so predictable that I never looked forward to painting. So I made the decision to go in the studio and do what’s natural and not force anything. This results in some very strong and unique paintings as well as a few mud pies. Why do you think I’m always using rejects for the keepers? It’s sessions like this one that reward me for staying on course.
Here are a few close-ups so you can see some of the brushwork and details.
I’ve included a video demonstration of this painting for your viewing pleasure. If you don’t see the video click here.
Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you back here tomorrow. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I’ll get back ASAP. Have a fabulous Sunday!
