My goal here was to focus on light and shade, as well as adding more detail to the face. I have noticed that many of my nudes don’t show the facial features. I haven’t intentionally done this, so I’m thinking that subconsciously I ignore these details simply because of the pace I set in the studio.
To add a likeness to the figure, I had to slow down just a bit to consider the details. I rarely start with a preliminary sketch, or drawing. I feel this will inhibit the creative precess. I stayed true to that with this one. So, to ensure that I had room for the face, I started with the face first so that it wouldn’t get left out.
I feel this one turned out really well. I’m going to focus more in the next few days on the figurative works, and facial features. I can see where this adds another dimension to the painting, and enhances the abstract qualities as well.

I really like this, especially the way the figure is placed on the paper (?), the use of light and dark and the crayon marks. I went out and bought a couple of oil bars and have just started using them in my oil painting. I’m liking what I’m getting with them, so far.
