Monhegan Island Lighthouse Painting on Canvas
This affordable and expressive Monhegan Island lighthouse painting measures 24″ x 20″ and is painted on canvas.
Inspiration behind the Maine landscape painting
If you’re participating in the polls then you know this is one of the winners. I’m very excited about the polls because it’s forcing me to utilize some of the smaller works to finally create some larger pieces on canvas. Sketches and smaller studies are something I prefer to do since it’s less intimidating than starting a larger canvas painting. Looking back about a month
ago I was only doing studies, which is fine but eventually some of them deserve to be a more finished piece. Thanks to everyone that has participated in the voting.
The painting is inspired from a picture I took while visiting Monhegan Island in August of 2010. We spent a half day on the Island and the weather couldn’t have been better. The previous year was a bit overcast and gray so I was delighted to have the opportunity to take some great pics to take back to the studio.

Robert,
A new follower of your blog after seeing your work with the “Daily Painters” and am enjoying it. Watched the video and wondered if that was done in one day or longer? I really enjoy your equine works with their power and expression. Thanks for taking the time to let us look over your shoulder. It was great!!
Robert Joyner
Trisha,
It was done in about 2-3 hours. I let the first layer dry and added the second. Thanks for following and I’m delighted to have you on-board.
