Contemporary Ketchup Bottle Painting. ‘Anticipation’ See video demonstration

Contemporary ketchup bottle painting

SOLD to a collector in Australia. Thanks Jaimee!

This acrylic still life was painted on 09-09-2010 in my studio.  I also used a reject painting which for some reason makes envisioning the subject easier. Since releasing some video demonstrations recently it seems the majority of the comments are about using the discarded paintings. It must be easier for most artists to use a clean canvas to start a painting but for me I prefer the chaos of a reject. The messier the better. It’s almost like having a solid form there that I can chisel away at until I find the shape I’m looking for versus trying to shape something from nothing. Perhaps it’s just habit too, either way I’ll take the reject any day over a blank canvas.

Sometimes I’m just in the mood for red which is what inspired this painting. I also painted a larger ketchup bottle a few months ago which is now part of the Artquiver collection. If you would like to view it  click here.  This smaller ketchup bottle painting is a prep for a series on condiments that will be coming soon. I’m considering doing them on canvas but haven’t made up my mind yet.

Also if you haven’t already be sure to subscribe to the website before you exit. You’ll receive all blog posts right to your inbox as well as weekly newsletters that will include the upcoming paintings for the week. It’s a great way to get a sneak peak at the works and qualify for special discounts. Click here if you are interested in more details.

I’ve also been working diligently on a new Facebook Fan Page. This too is a fabulous way to keep up with current events and get involved with contests and behind the scenes activities. You’ll notice the Facebook widget on the right-hand side of the blog where you can click the like button and become an official fan. If you have a few moments check out the site which launched a few days ago. If have some cool ideas that will start in the next few weeks so visit the site and become an official fan.

Without any further ado I present the video demonstration on ‘Anticipation’. Enjoy the short time lapsed demo and let me know what you think. I appreciate you stopping by and have a fantastic Friday. If you don’t see the demo on you screen click here.

I love your work!!! I was wondering if you could show a shot of your palette sometime.. Do you mix with medium or water? What kind of acrylics do you prefer?
Keep up the good work! You are an inspiration to me.
