Your “Keeping it Loose” tutorial is so helpful. I have watched it several times and can’t wait to see more of these.

Oh my goodness Robert, I enjoyed tremendously listening to your personal insight, philosophy and attitude about approaching a painting! Much good advice for me, right from the start, such as 2 parts believable 1 part imperfect. I like your attitude about reject paintings (and would like to be more like that!).
How much time do you spend painting every day? Are you always this fast?
Robert Joyner
Navaeh and Debbie,
Thanks for commenting.
It hard to say how much time I spend per day, but I would guess about 20 hours per week. I spend about the same amount of time marketing, blogging and packing/shipping. It works great now. I never feel burned out at the easel and I stay in tune with making/cropping pics and vids.
I’ll keep them coming. I’m going to invest in a HiDef camera so that the quality is better and I’ll use a second camera so you can see what’s happening on the palette.

This is so great of you, Robert. Not a lot of artists out there willing to share their methods with others. I did my first painting today based on the things that I have learned from your tutorials and all I can say is, Wow! Certainly not as beautiful as your paintings, but a one hundred percent improvement in my art! Thanks again!

Dear Robert:you know by now that I am a huge fan and admirer of your work.I would love to see your pallette colors before you start(or tell us the colors)and how you mix to get the shades which are fantastic. You work really fast but precise and the colors don’t get muddy.Do they dry first before you apply top layer?
Are dry pastels good to use on top of acrylic or oil ones better?
Thank you fro your help,Toula
Robert Joyner
Hi Toula!
I’ll try to incorporate more information about my palette in upcoming videos. I would say most of the layers dry before others are added. This is primarily because acrylics dry so fast and not necessarily because it’s what I want to do intentionally. I prefer artist grade crayons and oil pastels, so I can’t speak on dry pastels. I’ve avoided those because they are so messy. Hope this helps. Happy painting!
