Robert, you’re a real inspiration in playing with paint, having fun & staying loose
with your strokes! It seems you work on paper more than canvas…what paper & weight do you use? I mostly paint in oils & have been trying to let go & be more free, your videos are resetting my mind! Thanks for sharing your videos/tutorials of your work!

      Cathleen,
Thanks for commenting. I use 140 lb watercolor paper. Honestly, I buy whatever is on sale, so long as it’s archival, since I’m not too concerned about the texture, or how colors respond to a particular brand. I’ll have plenty more tutorials soon. It’s embarrassing to only have the one, but I guess it all starts there!
      Keep in touch:)

One more question, which brand/type acrylics do you use?
I noticed in your other demos when you pile on more
paint though it’s quite watery, it is still has substance. Usually if
I use water my paint gets quite watery…

      Cathleen,

I use two brands of acrylic – heavy body liquitex and matisse(only sold at Jerry’s artorama).
I will sometimes water them down for transparency, while other times I my dry brush for opacity. Hope that helps!

Robert, they look so juicy when you use them! I am totally new to acrylics and trying to figure out what to buy. Do you use the jars or the tubes or liquid? And do you use mediums, such as to increase fluidity? Thank you for your generosity in sharing!!!!

      Debbie,

I buy them by the jar. As large of a jar as possible for the primary colors, and the mid-size jars for all the rest. I’m not too fond of tubes, that little bit that is left near the end drives me nuts. I always feel like I waste some, but with the jars I can use every last speck of paint. Ahhh, rest assured.
Hope that helps. I’m going to cover some of my favorite colors and paint brands in the next few vids.

      Fredi,
Great to hear from you. I haven’t forgotten about fixing the video you contacted me about several months ago. I’ve invested in a new iMAc and the old files are still on the other computer-which happens to be packed away.
Anyhow, thanks for checking out the tutorial, and I have plenty more on the way. Take care.

Love your site! you have a beautiful style that kind of puts me in mind of the late Charles Sovek, whose work I really admire. Fabulous tutorial! I am learning so much just from your videos. Will be checking back in here often.
