Inspiration Behind The Art

This was one of the last paintings of a long session that was filled with horse art. Once I get on a roll the session flies by and at times I forget what I’ve painted and what I’m working on at that moment. So I kind of get lost in the moment. That’s pretty much what happened here, in the midst of creating I got caught up with shapes, colors and brushwork. that’s what was important at the time and nothing else mattered. When this happens you know that you’re in a good place for painting.

Inspiration Behind The Art

This is one of those paintings that happened very spontaneously. I could’ve cared less if I were painting a cow, cityscape or anything else – I just wanted to paint. Those type of sessions are always the best, and it doesn’t matter if I produce anything beautiful because it’s really about being in the moment. Letting everything else go so that I can escape into the creative side of my personality. There’s nothing I would rather be doing at that moment than standing at the easel with a loaded brush and slinging paint. It’s a wonderful place to be-now go paint!

Inspiration Behind The Artwork

If you’re up-to-date with what’s been going on around here, then you know I was selected as the 2012 Kentucky Derby Artist. My artwork will be used for programs, tickets, posters and memorabilia such as mugs, calendars,  prints and more. It’s a major honor to have been selected and it kind of hit me yesterday that the derby is only two and a half months away. I’m really looking forward to being at the derby for the first time and seeing my artwork displayed everywhere-cool stuff!

Anyhow. I figured I would start painting some horse art again since taking a long break after finishing the derby commission in October. I guess I was all horsed out at the time but not now! You can expect plenty more horse art in the near future.
