Abstract Maine Painting - Townscape With Acrylics

This abstract Maine painting features a townscape created with acrylics. More importantly this art pretty much says it all - I'm back at the easel focusing on my art after spending a year creating free acrylic painting tutorials.

This painting is inspired from a photo taken several years ago. Not sure which town it is but my guess is Bar Harbor. What inspired me to paint this is the cluster of homes in light and the dark shadow area on the right. Thought it would make a decent painting especially with all the details. Most details are omitted but it's interesting to pick and choose which ones to include.

What You Need To Know

This is a very complicated scene and it would be easy to get overwhelmed painting it. If you enjoy painting similar scenes be sure to reduce it to the basic shapes and avoid the clutter. An exercise I do, and recommend, is to don't paint details. Practice doing the big things and connecting the shapes first and then add a few details here and there to complete the piece. Many artists go for details first and this will only confuse the viewer since the main shapes don't connect.

Anyhow, onward and forward. Hope you enjoy the new painting.
