Canvas Cityscape Painting
Canvas Cityscape Painting Details
This cityscape painting is inspired from a photo reference I took while visiting the Richmond City Hall Observatory. It offered a panoramic view of downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods and I took full advantage of it by taking plenty of photos. I believe this particular scene is Franklin Avenue which is a block or two south of Broad Street. It measures 30" x 36" and is created with a mixed media combination of heavy body acrylics, inks and oil pastels.
This is another example of a canvas cityscape painting which is what I prefer to paint these days when working on this size surface(s). There's something very interesting about painting the city on a large scale as it gives me something to sink my teeth into when trying to fill the canvas. I find painting one object can be a bit challenging so I tend to look for a cluttered composition when I go big. That's how I feel these days, but who knows what tomorrow will bring, right?
