Main Street Station Richmond
Main Street Station Richmond Details
Large cityscape painting featuring Main Street Station in Richmond, Virginia, measures 40" x 48" and painted with heavy body acrylics on gallery wrap canvas. This popular downtown attraction was restored and reopened in 2003 and now a busy Amtrak terminal. The structure caught my eye while I was living near downtown in the Churchill area. I really like the colors of the building and the hustle and bustle backdrop of the busy highways that seem to wind around the building like snakes in the grass.
The painting was completed over several layers working from thin to thick. Many of the vehicles and other background elements were added from my imagination while other elements were slightly exaggerated. Like the clock and tower, which in real life don't stand that high, but I thought this accentuated the building and helped give more focus to the Station. Traffic in general is busy so I needed something to overpower that and the taller tower seemed like a perfect choice.
