Original Horse Painting Details

I've been exploring a variety of new mediums and painting techniques lately which have resulted in some exciting new art work - such as this loose and colorful original horse painting. Horses really lend themselves to the type of art I create especially when they're in motion. The artwork is created with a combination of acrylic paint, inks, compressed charcoal and colored pencils on archival paper, and measures 22" x 30".

Colored pencils have made a welcoming appearance in my studio. Actually they've been there the whole time I've just neglected to use them. I appreciate how they scribe into the wet paint. The marks are typically subtle since the point is rather small versus a crayon, or pastel. This allows me a little more freedom since the results aren't as overpowering. A perfect way to add some energy and line work which is what I love to do. Can't wait to get back in the studio to play some more!

Discovering a new medium or technique is what inspires me the most. And with art there’s always something new right around the corner as long as one is paying their dues.
