Sunflower Still Life Painting

If you appreciate a unique sunflower still life painting then I think you will like this one. I've only painted a few flower pieces so this is a new subject for sure. To break the ice I spent a few days just doodling, and getting to know the shapes and character a bit using graphite on paper. I then started to introduce a variety of mixed media combinations until something appealed to me. In this case it was heavy body acrylics, inks and my favorite - crayons.

As with any new subject there were plenty of rejects but I did manage a few winners. More than that I actually discovered I loved painting flowers. Who knows where this will go. I think flowers would be awesome on a large scale so I'm considering this as an option.

The piece is actually inspired from one of the subscribers. I remember someone mentioning they would love to see some florals and I thought "me too". Oh, almost forgot, it measures 22" x 18.50" and painted on 140 lb. archival paper. Anyhow, hope you enjoyed the new piece and I'll post more flower still life artwork soon. Thanks for having a look.
