Cows all started when I lived in rural Suffolk, Virginia. I had decided to explore plein air painting and set off one day to give it a go.

Five hours later there I was still driving around and feeling quite exhausted with this outdoor painting idea. It’s no fun blowing a tank of gas and riding around in the sticks all day thinking that the ultimate scene is just around the next corner.

I kept driving past the cow farms and thinking it would be totally cool to pull over and paint them. I finally did it! It was a relief to get out of the car and to connect with what would eventually become my most sought after paintings.
